Step 4. Daily Disciplines

Considering what you have written so far, what action steps you have committed to do under each area and considering why you want your goals, it’s time now to imagine for a moment how you would have to show up each day to achieve all these things?  Who would you have to be, to do what needs to be done, to be able to have the things you want to have? You may need to read that one again.  Who would you have to be, to do what needs to be done, to be able to have the things you want to have?

Most people live by the following equation

HAVE + DO = BE

When I HAVE lost 10 kilos (DO) I will BE Happy.

In actual fact, the best formula is the following one

BE + DO =  HAVE

You must be the person you want to be whilst you are doing the things necessary to create the things you want to have.

Think of some of the traits that successful people have. If you aren’t sure, just ask yourself what key traits someone like Richard Branson would have to have to be able to create what he has?  A few that jump to my mind are an attitude of fun, adventure, determination, looking outside the square, being an inspiration to everyday people, being able to inspire and empower people.  He would probably also need to be disciplined, determined, positive, always looking for the HOW, not the WHY.

Pick a few traits that will help you be the person you want to be.

Next, pick a few small daily disciplines that will help you to stay on target and in a positive mindset every day. For instance, some people want to (but may forget) to journal.  Do you want to keep a daily or weekly journal so you can look back and see how far you have come. Do you need to have ten minutes of meditation every day?  Do you want to set aside one hour each week for your own personal development, or do you need to ensure you stretch your body more?  Do you want to make a list every night of what you need to do the next day, or do you want to set Daily Intentions, or spend a few minutes at night visualising your ideal you? Do you want to check in with your 90 day plan daily and start prioritising your life? Make these daily disciplines different to your tasks under each life heading. Just ask yourself the question, “What else could I do every day that would help me keep on track and achieve my goals and how do I need to be doing them.”

Until next time remember, Your Mindset Matters

As you step forward in the action plan you have created, or hopefully are in the process of creating, it is critical that you review what you are doing and where you are going.  So, first of all, write yourself a mission statement for you and your life.  Something simple, like “I strive to be the best person I can be every day and to show up as an enthusiastic, positive and inspirational person.” Make it relevant to you.

Then, review where you are. You can do a simple daily or weekly review by looking at your  90 day plan under each area, so you can steer the direction for the following day or week.  However, at least every 3 - 4 weeks, stop, take a moment out of your busy life and spend a moment reviewing where you are, what you have done and how you have shown up whilst doing it.  What has been working and what hasn’t.  Considering all the questions ask yourself what needs to be changed and how?

5.    REVIEW - (Murrays questions)  SET MISSION STATEMENT

6.    KEEP ACCOUNTABLE  How will you make sure you keep on track?

7.    REWARD YOURSELF.....
